What is Aventurin{e}?

Aventurin{e} has been developed by Solarspeed Ltd. and NuOnce Network, Inc. It is a fully blown Linux operating system that can be installed on any X86 compatible hardware. It provides an intuitive browser based administration interface and allows to create and manage Linux based virtual private servers. Aventurin{e} also includes mechanisms to back up and restore virtual private servers.

Benefits:

Aventurin{e} is ideal for webhosting companies and companies with their own IT infrastructure.

Within a matter of minutes you can create new CentOS + BlueQuartz virtual private servers which cater all your web, email and FTP needs.

Or you can create that CentOS, Fedora Core, Debian, Ubuntu or OpenSuSE virtual private server that your developer needs to deploy his new application. Aventurin{e} also helps you to deploy your own customized Linux operating systems.

Additionally Aventurin{e} helps you to improve your ability for disaster recovery. No longer do you have to provide individual backup mechanisms for each of your servers. Aventurin{e} allows you to back up (and restore!) all its virtual private servers through the GUI interface.

Migrations of virtual private servers from Aventurin{e} - or from any OpenVZ or Virtuozzo host - to another can be done without downtime.

Clustering:

When you are running mission critical servers and can afford next to no downtime, then clustering is the answer.

Aventurin{e} is available in a clustering version, which allows you to set up two servers to perform this task. This product comes as fully configured cluster - with two MSI P1-105A server chassis and with Aventurin{e} pre-installed and ready to run.

Schematics:

How it works:

Ideally you have two identical servers. Each of them has two harddisks which do RAID 1 - either software RAID or hardware RAID. Both of these servers - or lets call them "Master Nodes" - are connected to each other by a crossover ethernet cable that plugs into the network interface "eth1" on both servers.

Additionally each server is connected to your switch or router that connects them to your LAN or to the Internet.

Both "Master Nodes" have one "shared" partition which is mirrored through "Raid over Ethernet". So all data that on this shared partition is constantly mirrored - not only on the internal RAID 1 that each server does by itself. It is also mirrored over to the other "Master Node" over the eth1 network interface.

During normal operation only "Master Node 1" has this shared partition mounted. All virtual private servers are stored in this shared partition and run out of it. So "Master Node 1" is serving all Web-, Email, FTP and other services off the virtual private servers that it provides.

"Master Node 2" just sits there and waits. Periodically (like one time each second) it monitors if "Master Node 1" is still alive and doing what it is supposed to do.

If "Master Node 2" realizes that "Master Node 1" is dead (for whatever reason), then it will mount the shared partition and will serve all virtual private servers.

To the casual observer it will look like there was a minor network glitch, but then he can continue to browse the webpage that he was visiting, or do whatever task on the virtual private server that he was visiting at the time.

As soon as "Master Node 1" returns back from the dead, "Master Node 2" will spot this. Both servers will negotiate and will arrange that the data of the shared partition is re-synchronized - so that both are fully up to date on all changes again.

What happenes next can be configured in Aventurin{e}'s GUI interface. You can configure that either "Master Node 1" re-inherits all services, or that "Master Node 2" continues to serve the requests until you make a manual switchover.
