This MOD_PHP package is an updated PHP installation, which installs into a separate directory than the already present PHP version that comes with BlueOnyx. This allows you to run the OS supplied stock PHP which the BlueOnyx interface requires and the new PHP side by side without any interference. The AdmServ (the Apache webserver that powers the GUI interface) will continue to use the old stock PHP, while the public Apache webserver which serves your webpages will use then newer and more modern PHP version.

Items listed with (**) are deprecated PHP versions and are not available on BlueOnyx 5210R or BlueOnyx 5211R.

Items listed with (*) are EOL PHP versions and while they are available on BlueOnyx 5210R or BlueOnyx 5211R, they may no longer receive feature or security updates.

Purchase of this PKG gives you access to all of PHP versions that we have built for the respective BlueOnyx version. Upon linking this purchase you can choose which of the above PHP versions you want to install as package. You can change this at any later time by simply uninstalling the current PHP package via the GUI and by then installing another PHP version instead.

On 5209R, 5210R and 5211R you can install *all* of the available PHP PKGs and can decide which version of PHP individual Vsites should use.

The new PHP will be installed into the directory /home/solarspeed/php-<version>/ and it comes with all the bells and whistles enabled that the stock PHP is missing. The new features usually include support for XML, PDF, cURL, DOM-XML, Mcrypt (if PHP still supports it), Mbstring, MHash, Aspell/Pspell, ZIP as well as IonCube support. However, availability of features somewhat fluctuates depending on the PHP version.

Also built in now:

• Image Magick support through Imagick
• MS SQL support through FreeTDS
• PDO support for various databases
• unixODBC support
• OPCache support (PHP-5.5 to PHP-8.5)
• IonCube support (except for PHP-8.1)
• Memcache support (PHP-7.4 up to PHP-8.5)

Additionally it fully integrates with the new PHP security additions in the BlueOnyx GUI.

To remain as compatible as possible with the BlueOnyx base install the command line interpreter for PHP at /usr/bin/php has to remain unmodified. However, if you need to run PHP scripts through the more modern CLI that our PHP provides, then you find the CLI for that at the location /home/solarspeed/mod_php/bin/php. Just execute your scripts with the new CLI and they will be executed with the updated PHP interpreter instead.

Example: /home/solarspeed/php-<version>/bin/php myscript.php

Likewise our updated PHP uses a separate php.ini file. You find the new php.ini at this location:

/home/solarspeed/php-<version>/etc/php.ini

Additional .ini files placed into /home/solarspeed/php-<version>/etc/php.d/ will be included by the updated PHP if you supply them yourself.

Please note:

Newer PHP versions usually introduce changes in code execution and functionality. Functions and methods may been deprecated or changed. A lot of older PHP code may therefore not run on newer (or newest) PHP versions. So please make sure to keep your PHP scripts updated confirm that they can run with the version of PHP that you are going to install.

We specifically made sure that our PHP packages for BlueOnyx makes only those changes to the server appliance which are absolutely required for the usage of the upgraded PHP. All changes can be reverted back by uninstalling the package.

Our upgraded PHP packages work with both the stock MySQL that ships with the respective BlueOnyx versions. The also work with the upgraded MySQL packages available in this store. Any other versions of MySQL might not be supported.

Our PHP packages are available for all versions of BlueOnyx (unless listed otherwise above) that are actively supported.
